LAWA wanted a site that would bring together disparate pockets of environmental monitoring data from all of New Zealand’s regional councils, NIWA, and the Ministry for the Environment.

Land, Air, Water Aotearoa (LAWA) is a collaboration between New Zealand’s 16 regional and unitary councils, Cawthron Institute, Ministry for the Environment and NIWA.

We worked with Massey College of Creative Arts' OpenLab to design a website that visually captures the beauty of New Zealand waterways. While sharing scientific data to keep you informed about the environment.

We utilise regional council ArcGIS servers WFS feeds to import geo-spatial data into LAWA.

Using an Umbraco content managed website we built a website that integrates:

  • Regional council Hilltop real-time WML data feeds

  • LINZ feeds to provide GIS data

  • NIWA data feeds to provide national water quality data

"Jonathon and his team take care to scope projects in detail to provide an accurate cost estimate and they have consistently met the project brief on deadline and within budget. I have found their responsiveness to be excellent, at times anticipating potential issues and resolving these before they impact website users."

Outcomes

The outcome was a comprehensive website that provides users with a wealth of information about New Zealand's environment. The website offers an intuitive interface for exploring environmental data, including real-time information about water quality, rainfall, and other key metrics. Users can access data at the national, regional, and local levels, making it easy to get a complete picture of the state of the environment across New Zealand. The resulting website is a testament to the power of collaboration and the importance of using technology to address critical environmental

The LAWA Site Integration Project has been a critical component of our ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability and technology innovation. We are proud to have had the opportunity to work with LAWA on this important initiative and look forward to continuing our partnership in the years to come.
